YOUTH NEWS | MINISTRIES AT COVENANT

COLLECTING SCHOOL SUPPLIES
Independent Hill School would greatly appreciate any help with the following supplies:

* Pink block erasers
* Glue sticks
* Pencil boxes
* Composition books (NOT notebooks)
* Play dough or Moonsand
* Markers
* Velcro with sticky back
* Construction paper
* Snacks of any type
* Juice boxes and bottled water

If you would like to donate any of these, please put them in the red bucket under the Giving Tree in the Narthex during the month of August.

DONATIONS NEEDED FOR COMMUNITY YARD SALE
CPC will be holding a Community Yard Sale on Saturday, October 2nd, to benefit the upcoming mission trip to rebuild Text City. Donation items are needed and may be dropped off at the church between September 25th - October 1st. Please limit clothing donations to baby and children's clothing. Donations are accepted during church office hours of 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR COMMUNITY YARD SALE
Volunteers will be needed to price yard sale items on Friday, October 1st, and to help with set up, clean up and the collection of funds on Saturday, October 2nd, Proceeds from the yard sale will be used by our Mission Team to purchase building materials to rebuild family home in Texas City, which sustained damages from Hurricane Ike. MEN'S BREAKFAST AND BIBLE STUDY
Our Men's Breakfast and Bible Study begins on Saturday, Sep. 11th. We meet every second Saturday of the month at 8 AM. This year's seven session study will be on the book of Judges, entitled: "The Cycle of Human Relationships and Divine Restoration." If you are interested in a good breakfast along with some good fellowship and bible study, meet us downstairs in the Fellowship Hall at 8PM on the 11th!

BIBLE STUDY ON PSALMS
Tim and Emily Foster will be hosting a Bible Study on Sunday mornings during the 11 AM service on the book of Psalms. The book we will be using is "Psalms" from the "Life Change Series" published by NavPress. We will begin the Bible Study on Sunday, September 12th. Please contact Tim if you are interested in joining.

MONDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY
Starting Sept. 13, the Monday Night Bible Study will begin Beth Moore's study on Daniel. By studying how the prophet Daniel dealt with pressures of a hostile culture, challenges to his faith and temptations, we can learn to deal with struggles in our lives. PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN
For the first time in a very long time indeed, a presbytery-wide women's event is going to be help at Covenant! On September 18th, our church will the PW Fall Gathering, 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM, including serving lunch. The PW Bible study for the coming year, Revelation: Apocalyptic Hope for Today, will be introduced by the Rev. Lynn Jostes.

MISSION TRIP TO TEXAS CITY, TX
Covenant's 5th trip to the Gulf Coast is set for October 24th - 30th. Our Mission continues to be working with the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance in rebuilding homes due to the hurricane damage. Join us! For further information, please contact Knox Swayze.

LAWN CARE
The Covenant lawn care crew has begun their weekly mowing. Anyone interested in helping with picking up, mowing, trimming, shrub care, or other miscellaneous task is welcome to participate whenever possible. We work weekly on Saturday mornings, 8:00 – 10:00 AM. Come on out and join us!

PIZZA AT CiCi's
Enjoy dinner at CicCi's Pizza and benefit the Drop-In-Center for the Homeless at the same time. On Mondays, from 4:30 PM until 8:00 PM, Cici's Pizza will donate 15% of all sales to the Drop-In-Center at the Winter Shelter.

NEW MISSION OPPORTUNITY
Providing food for dinner at the Drop-In Center on the 4th Tuesday of every month. See the sign-up sheet in the foyer or Narthex for details, or talk to Winnie Tierney. Any help would be greatly appreciated! This is a very important mission, and the homeless men truly appreciate what you do for them.  If you're not comfortable going to the center, just let us know and we can arrange picking up the food ahead of time.

YOUTH NEWS ....

YOUTH GROUP MEETING
Middle School Youth Group meets Wednesdays, 6:30 - 7:30 PM, at the church. High School Youth Group meets Wednesdays, 8:00 - 9:00 PM at the church. For more information contact our Youth Director, Josh Fowler

HELP NEEDED
We are looking for volunteers to help do a lot of things with the youth this year. We would like to have volunteers bring snacks for the youth every Wednesday throughout the year. We are also looking for people interested in helping by volunteering their time for future events, or by just praying for the youth by name. If you would like to help in any way, please contact Josh.

ADOPTING A CHILD
through World Vision costs about $30 a month. They are in extra need with the downturn in the economy, and are looking for people to adopt a child. Youth Director Josh Fowler suggests several youth (or adults) partnering to sponsor a child. If you would like to participate, contact Josh.

MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES AT COVENANT ....

YOUNG MUSICIANS- Music Opportunities
Our Choir Director would like to give our youth an opportunity to play on an occasional Sunday. If you play an instrument, please contact Sue Whittle and let her know.

OTHER MUSICIANS
You don't have to be young to play! Sue Whittle is looking for ALL types of musicians to bring praise to God through music at the traditional service (11:00 AM).

CHILDREN'S CHOIR
Would your child like to join our new Cherub Choir? If you're interested, please contact Sue Whittle.

COVENANT CHOIR
If you like to sing (even if you're not experienced) please think about joining the choir. Rehearsals are Wednesday nights at 7:30 PM. We also have opportunities for singers who can't make a weekly commitment.

GREETERS
We need many people to welcome everyone who comes into Covenant. We have several doors to cover and eventually would like to have a few folks out in the parking lot. There may be someone who needs a wheelchair or help carrying something, catch a run-away toddler, even carry an umbrella on a rainy day. If you like to meet and greet people, this may be for you. The greeting team is coordinated by the Evangelism and Membership elders, Rob Bentall and Dan Dykstra

TODDLER/NURSERY VOLUNTEERS
The Toddler/Nursery area is looking for more volunteers. You can choose which service time you are available, and we would love to have your help! Please let Ann Bristow know if you are interested

BIBLE STUDIES
Presbyterian Women sponsor several Bible studies throughout each month. If you are interested in attending, please ask Sherri Quinn, Fabienne Corcoran, or Ann Bristow for specific times and dates.

Attention Seniors (Men & Women) and other interested persons: If you would like a mid-morning Bible Study, please call Nelle Trautman.

PRAYER MINISTRY
We are going to start a prayer ministry at Covenant. Ideally, we would like to have someone praying during each of the Sunday services, in a separate room. We will be praying for the church, the church leaders, the youth, the Sunday school children, Sunday school teachers, all who attend Covenant and the list goes on. . . CPC will continue to collect food for ACTS. The basket will be in the Narthex for collection throughout the year!
